Davenport Lutheran Home

One Good Deed Returns Another! ~ Becky Jones

About six months ago Davenport Lutheran Home received an anonymous donation of various craft supplies which included a large garbage bag full of yarn. Since we already had a large garbage bag of donated yarn in stock, I set about finding someone else who could put this good yarn to good use. The following Sunday I visited Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Davenport and thoroughly enjoyed Pastor Neuendorf’s Bible Study. Afterwards, Pastor invited me to talk with the congregants about all of the goings-on at our Lutheran home. When I asked the group if they knew of anyone who would appreciate having a giant bag full of yarn, they answered, almost in unison; “Carol Fell”. I knew Carol because she had recently had a short stay with us for Rehabilitative Therapy. When I asked her if she could use a garbage bag full of yarn, she told me about the hat’s and scarves she had knitted and donated various ministries. Once the yarn was in Carol’s possession, I was satisfied that that it would be applied to a good cause. A couple of months later, Carol came back to the Lutheran Home to return that garbage bag full of yarn, but now all of those skeins of yarn had been transformed into hats and scarves. It seems the ministry that Carol chose to receive these beautiful, hand-made gifts of warmth, was Davenport Lutheran Home. She wanted them to go to our staff because she was thankful for the care she received while she was here and she had become especially fond of the individuals that were responsible for her care. I had the pleasure of distributing the hats and scarves to the staff and if you can’t tell by their smiling faces, this donated yarn was definitely put to good use.
