Prince of Peace Lutheran Church In Coralville

Another successful VBS was held on June 10th--despite the rain.

Rev. Otto and the dedicated VBS staff at Prince of Peace were joined this year by Rev. Max Mons and several volunteers from St. Paul's chapel in Iowa City. This was the third year in which Prince of Peace Lutheran extended an invitation to the children of St. Paul's chapel and the children of the international Student program to join us for VBS.

Overall, 40 children attended, with just about as many well-organized volunteers, and all heard the Good News of Jesus Christ.

Grace Lutheran Church in DeWitt

A group of Prayer Warriors have faithfully met every Thursday afternoon the past seven years at 2 p. m. in the sanctuary at Grace Lutheran, DeWitt. We pray each week for the ill in our congregation and community, those who are grieving, the birth of a child, concerns of the congregation or community, our country, its leaders and the military serving in various places throughout the world. Cards and messages are sent each week and signed by those attending the Prayer Service.

A special “Memorial Day Prayer Service” was held May 25th. Special guest attending were those who have served in the military or have family members that have served or are serving in the military at this time. Ron and Lavonne Jurgersen brought news from their son, Sgt Major Brent Jurgersen, who was wounded twice while serving in Iraq. Brent has been awarded two Purple Hearts and recently was promoted to Sgt. Major in the U. S. Army.

St. Paul's Lutheran, Iowa City, In Lithuania Part Two

Dear President Arp,

Today was the last day that the Iowa young people spent working at thebuilding site. While the construction foreman and I was talking together late this afternoon he paid them all a very high compliment, saying that he was surprised that they worked so hard and so competently. He said thathe was especially impressed that the girls pitched in and worked so hard. He said that he had never before seen such a thing!

Tomorrow Dr Evanson and I are going to take them to the Amber Museaum inPalanga. On Friday they will go to Vilnius for a two day visit to ourcapital city before they fly back to the USA. It has been a reall pleasure to have them here.

They worked hard, and spread much goodwill everywhere they have gone.

Yours in Christ,

Darius Petkunas
