Sunday, November 6th was dedication day of the new cross and upgraded signage at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Grinnell, Iowa
The late April 2010 wind/hail storm damaged the 18 by 10 foot cross that graced the South face of Immanuel Lutheran Church. With the need to replace it came the opportunity to enhance it. Much research, planning, fabrication steps and labor have resulted in a new aluminum two tiered cross lighted by an light emitting diode strip that surrounds the entire cross. Complimentary comments have been received by those whose pass after dark or during the morning commute to Grinnell.
The new lighted sign has been in place for some time, but wet weather had postponed previous dedication dates.
The brief rite of dedication took place out on the front lawn. The singing of the hymn “Lift High the Cross” concluded the special occasion for the congregation.
The Reverend David Brandt, pastor of Immanuel comments, “The congregation has a spacious beautiful setting, but with buildings, trees and the church set back from 11th Avenue, the public may unaware of Immanuel’s location. The lighted sign and lighted cross increases the visibility of the congregation.”
Immanuel Lutheran Church is located North of the Senior High School or one half block west of the 11th Avenue and Sunset Street intersection. The congregation is affiliated with the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.
