College Hill Lutheran Church

College Hill Lutheran Church conducted a “Disaster Relief Fund Drive” on August first and second. It was a successful event. How successful? This small, 100 member, congregation surpassed the project goal and raised $12,200!

Picture the scene: The Rummage Sale filled the lower level of the church and spilled over onto a great portion of the church lawn. The Bake Sale offered a delicious array of goodies covering seven tables with more stacked on the church pews for room. A breakfast of pancakes and sausage was served both days, as was a lunch of BBQ pork sandwiches, salads and dessert. And, oh yes, there was homemade pie and ice cream.

In total, 101 volunteers donated over three 3,150 hours to make this event a huge success.

Items which were not sold did not go to waste. They were donated to: The Book Nook, the Cedar Falls Public Library, Orphan Grain Train, Goodwill, and St. Vincent DePaul.

The funds collected were increased through a Thrivent Financial for Lutherans grant of $10,000 and were divided equally between four families. One family had lost her home in the Parkersburg tornado, two others lost their homes to the flood waters, and the fourth suffered both tornado and flood damage to their business and their home.

Thanks be to God for providing success to the Disaster Relief Fund Drive through the generous efforts of His people.
