King of Kings Lutheran Church in Robbins

LCEF Invested Dollars At Work In Iowa District East

Congregation relocates from Cedar Rapids and builds in Robins

After 29 years of worship, King of Kings Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids has said goodbye to their church building. Led by Rev. Mark Halvorson, King of Kings is now about 600 members strong and outgrew their Cedar Rapids space.

Last August, King of Kings moved out and welcomed the new owners, Mount Zion Baptist Church. Mount Zion's congregation lost their church building in the floods of 2008 and after two temporary locations, members now have a new place to call home.
Celebration weekend, the grand opening of the new church facility, is February 18-20.  The weekend will kick off with a prayer vigil on Friday, Saturday is the dedication and celebration service, and Sunday worship services and bible classes in the new facility.

LCEF is blessed to help finance King of Kings new land and construction on the outskirts of nearby Robins where the new church is taking shape.

Known for their successful small group structure, King of Kings Outreach/Small Group Coordinator Elise Hexum is a wonderful resource for any congregation interested in starting and/or improving its own small group participation. This vibrant ministry has 250 members participating in 24 various small groups. "We've been working on small group ministry now for eight years," said Hexum. "We have five coaches, we set aside time for the groups to share testimonials with the congregation and we host a couple nice appreciation events for small group leaders each year." Hexum admits that leading small groups over time can be demanding. They are careful to both train their leaders and express thanks and appreciation at scheduled events.

The community of Robins is located just north of Cedar Rapids along Interstate 380. Its population grew by 64% between 2000 and 2009 to nearly 3,000 residents with a median age of 37 years old (July 2009). Robins is expected to continue to grow at a rate exceeding 15% in the next five years.
This new church home for the members of King of Kings promises to be a wonderful space for worship and Christian education for the community. See their photo story of the construction process online at kingofkingscr.org.
