St. Paul's Chapel and University Center in Iowa City

Spring Break in Solon?

While a good number of their classmates began Spring Break by jetting south to Fort Lauderdale, South Padre Island, or Cancun, a group from St. Paul’s Chapel struck north to spend their break at Camp Io-Dis-E-Ca, in sunny, Solon... Iowa.

In exchange for food and lodging, the chapel crew spent five days working on the camp. The tasks included fixing the feet on all the chairs in the Alpha Lodge, painting the floor in the Omega Lodge, painting portions of the kitchen, assembling quilt racks for the Alpha Lodge, and painting numbers on the Frisbee golf course.

It was a lot of work, but you know the saying, “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.” There was also plenty of time for fun: air rifles, wall climbing, a soccer game in the basement of Omega (don’t tell Pastor Small!), and playing Wii until the wee hours of the morning.

It was a great spring break and much was accomplished. The only downside was no one came back with a tan.
