King of Kings In Cedar Rapids



King of Kings Lutheran Church welcomes new Senior Pastor Reverend Mark Halvorson. The congregation, located at 6621 C Ave. NE, will host a Day of Celebration on April 13, which includes the Service of Installation at 2:00 p.m.

Pastor Halvorson will preach at both the 8:00 and 10:45 a.m. worship services and lead the Adult Bible Class at 9:30 a.m. Pastor Halvorson, his wife, Ann and family will be the guests of honor during a congregational potluck at noon, with a reception following the Service of Installation. Everyone is invited to attend.

Reverend Halvorson is passionate about Small Group Ministry and outreach at King of Kings. It was his experience in these areas of ministry that King of Kings sought in their search for a new Senior Pastor. King of Kings identifies outreach and small group ministry as top priorities for the church as they plan for continued growth, including relocation to recently purchased property on North Center Point Road in Robins, Iowa.

About Rev. Mark Halvorson
Pastor Halvorson was born in Seattle, Washington in 1956. He grew up in Seattle and moved to Northern California during junior high school. A few years after graduating from Ukiah High School, Halvorson married his high school sweetheart, the former Ann Clausen. Ann is an elementary school teacher with a Masters Degree from the University of Minnesota. Married for 31 years, the couple has five children and two grandchildren.

Pastor Halvorson graduated from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis in 1985 and served at Peace Lutheran Church in Oelwein, Iowa. He then served ten years as the Senior Pastor
at Trinity Lutheran Church in Oregon City, Oregon. In 1998, he accepted a call as Mission Coordinator for the Minnesota South District. After two years, Halvorson returned to the parish at Lord of Glory Lutheran Church in Elk River, Minnesota where he ministered for nearly eight years.

In addition to serving three congregations and his district work, Pastor Halvorson served on the adjunct faculty at Concordia University, Portland. He taught practical theology at Multnomah Biblical Seminary. Halvorson is a past chairman of the Oregon Pastors Conference and the Board for Missions and Congregational Outreach in the Minnesota North District. He helped start four mission congregations.

Pastor Halvorson’s personal interests include reading, especially history; sports, outdoor recreation and anything having to do with his children and grandchildren.
