St Paul’s ISM Volunteer Retreat
On a chilly evening in February, the ISM’s English Conversation Volunteers gathered in the Student Center at St. Paul’s Chapel for the ISM Volunteer Retreat.
Throughout the year these volunteers work closely, in small and large groups, with international students and international residents of Iowa City who are eager to practice their English with a native speaker. Most volunteers meet with their international partner(s) for one hour a week, some meet more often. Currently, the ISM’s volunteers come from the three local LCMS churches in the area: Prince of Peace in Coralville, Our Redeemer in Iowa City, and St Paul’s Chapel.
The retreat was a time for the volunteers to share stories, listen to ideas, as well as have some delicious cake. The retreat reminded the volunteers that programs which run through ISM have the privileged of proclaiming the Gospel to those who have not heard it.
Presenters during the retreat included International Peer Ministers Allison Otto and Nicole Dudley, Rev. Max Mons, and DCO Drew Bayless.
If you would like to become part of this mission work, please contact Drew Bayless, the Interim Director of International Student Ministry.
